Relevance: evidence must make a fact more or less probable (FRE 401)
Hearsay: out-of-court statement offered for truth of the matter; generally inadmissible with exceptions
Key hearsay exceptions: present sense impression, excited utterance, business records, dying declaration
Character evidence: generally inadmissible to prove conduct, except in criminal cases (defendant may open the door)
